Seoul City Introducing Onsite Dispatch of Stenographers for the Hearing-impaired

SEOUL, March 10 (Korea Bizwire)The Seoul Metropolitan Government will implement a “text-translation service” in which a stenographer will help people with a hearing impairment to communicate to land a job, navigate their career and practice self-development.

The plan calls for sending a “text interpreter” – a stenographer – to help the hearing-impaired communicate smoothly when they are engaged in activities such as job interviews, lectures, and seminars to provide real-time service by changing spoken language to writing.

The city will provide a total of 100 people with 20 hours of free annual service per person this year.

Meanwhile, the number of hearing-impaired individuals living in Seoul amounted to roughly 50,000 last year, with their employment rate low at 27.1 percent.
