Seoul City to Create 3D-based Tap Water Purification Center in a Virtual Space

SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Korea Bizwire)The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to improve the quality of its Arisu tap water using digital twin technology.

The city government said Wednesday that it had developed a ‘digital twin-based water purification system improvement technology’ designed to improve the process of water purification treatment by setting up a 3D water purification center in a virtual space.

Digital twin refers to the creation of an accurate virtual replica of physical objects to predict and verify various results that can happen in the real world through simulations.

The newly-developed technology focuses on establishing an accurate 3D water purification center model in a virtual space and drawing various simulation results through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) through the use of real-world data such as water quality and process information.

The model presents predicted results by precisely visualizing a variety of invisible data, including water flow, strength, stagnant areas and residence time using colors and lines.

The city government stressed that this technology would contribute to ensuring efficient management of facilities and optimizing the water purification process, thereby enabling the safe production of tap water.
