SEOUL, March 12 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Thursday that it will expand a real-time sharing service for so-called ‘green’ parking lots or spaces in residential areas.
The green parking lots were introduced in 2004 as part of efforts to address parking problems in residential areas. The city government subsidized the construction cost if the parking lots were built by removing walls around houses.
In 2019, the city government launched an Internet of Things (IoT)-based sharing service for green parking lots through its ‘Seoul Parking Information’ app.
The city government plans to expand the service further this year by connecting the parking information app with a private shared parking service operator.
IoT sensors in each parking space determine whether a car is parked or not and provide parking information to app users.
The house or land owners who transform their property or parts of property to green parking lots and share them with others can make extra money.
In addition, the CCTV camera that is installed together with the IoT sensor can contribute to improving home security.
Starting from this year, applicants for the green parking project will be given subsidies if they participate in the shared parking initiative by installing the IoT sensors.
