SEOUL, March 10 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday that it is pushing to lower the speed limit for cars on bicycle-first roads in urban areas to 20 kilometer per hour.
The city government plans to introduce a ‘designated low-speed lane system’ to ensure the safety of citizens riding bicycles and personal mobility devices (PMDs).
The designated low-speed lane system will assign the speed limit of the far-right lane on roads with more than three lanes in each direction to 20 kilometers per hour.
To officially introduce the designated low-speed lane system, the city government plans to ask the central government and the National Assembly to amend the current Road Traffic Act, while embarking on the establishment of the system within this year.
In addition, the city government intends to continue to push for amendment of regulations towards limiting the driving speed of PMDs to 20 kilometers per hour.
