SEOUL, April 11 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Monday it will implement a new system enabling citizens to request radiation tests for food.
Under this system, any citizen or civic group in the city can request a test for food suspected of radiation contamination.
After reviewing the applications, the city government will collect and inspect the food products that are deemed appropriate for testing.
The inspection results will be communicated to the applicants and made available on the city government’s website for public viewing.
However, foods that are decayed or spoiled, contain foreign substances, have an unverifiable origin, or are in a form that cannot be sampled cannot be inspected.
Additionally, unpackaged processed foods, cooked foods, and health supplement foods are also exempt from inspection.
The city government already conducts approximately 1,500 radiation inspections each year for major imported seafood products suspected of contamination, food ingredients used in schools and daycare centers, agricultural products, and processed foods.
