Seoul City to Open Outdoor Libraries in Gwanghwamun Square and Seoul Plaza

SEOUL, April 18 (Korea Bizwire)The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Monday it will open libraries in Gwanghwamun Square and Seoul Plaza to celebrate World Book Day (April 23), an annual event organized by the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

The libraries will be available until November.

In Gwanghwamun Square, five outdoor venues will be established as book culture spaces.

Bookshelves will be installed at three locations, allowing visitors to borrow books and read them anywhere inside the square, including on benches, stairs, and around the fountain.

The outdoor mobile library in Seoul Plaza, which attracted 210,000 citizens last year, will also resume operations.

The library will consist of four venues, including performance, reading, play, and popup, and will be furnished with up to 5,000 books recommended by Seoul citizens, including everyday life-related books and children’s books.

All visitors will be able to read the books without needing to create a membership or go through the process of borrowing and returning books.
