SEOUL, March 22 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday it will provide a year of free animal insurance for people adopting abandoned animals.
Those adopting and registering an abandoned animal through 13 agencies and institutions including the Seoul Animal Care Center will benefit from a free animal insurance policy for one year.
The insurance plan introduced jointly by Seoul and DB Insurance Co. will cover the medical cost of treating diseases and injuries sustained or inflicted upon other animals.
Abandoned cats will now be covered by the insurance, which was previously available only for abandoned dogs.
Last year, there were 4,870 abandoned animals in Seoul, 32 percent of which were adopted or donated. Another 14 percent were euthanized.
