SEOUL, Mar. 8 (Korea Bizwire)A photocatalytic paint that absorbs fine dust will be applied to public buildings in Seoul for the very first time.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Thursday that it will repaint the outer walls of the Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema located in Jung District with photocatalytic paint.

“Once we successfully observe the reduction effects of photocatalytic paint, we will begin repainting other public buildings as well,” said city officials.

The city will be using photocatalytic paint produced by the SH Urban Research Office of the Seoul Housing and Communities Corp. (SH).

It absorbs and dissolves fine dust through photolysis, after which the remains are washed away by rain.

SH estimates that applying photocatalytic paint to an area of 1,000㎡ will reduce 3.4 kilograms of fine dust every year, which is equivalent to planting 100 Mongolian oak trees.
