SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government will send out mobile notifications, instead of mail, for delinquent tax notices.
The city’s internal revenue department has been sending out some 200,000 notices to 25,000 delinquent taxpayers via mail every year.
However, the mail often fails to reach the taxpayers because many of them don’t live in their current registered address, and a hard copy notification risked a leak of private information.
“Mobile notifications will reach the taxpayers faster and are also cheaper,” a city official said.
Mobile notifications will be sent out as text messages to the taxpayer’s mobile phone.
For those without any mobile contact information, the city will send out the notification to the phone number registered to a mobile carrier that matches the taxpayer’s resident registration number.
