SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Korea Bizwire)The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Thursday that it will replace all delivery motorbikes and aged diesel-fueled parcel trucks with electric models by 2025 in cooperation with related industries and the central government.

At present, a total of 215,000 delivery motorbikes are operating in the city, of which full-time delivery motorbikes operating for more than five days a week are estimated at about 35,000 units.

The city government plans to distribute 62,000 electric motorbikes by 2025. In particular, all of the full-time delivery motorbikes will be replaced with electric vehicles by 2025.

Electric motorbikes are free from noise and air pollution but their distribution remained low among delivery workers since their driving distance per charging hour (about 50 kilometers per charge) was short given that the daily driving distance of delivery workers is estimated at 150 to 200 kilometers.

To address this issue, the city government plans to develop a new electric motorbike with a longer driving distance per charging hour, as well as a standard charger model for them.
