SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government’s new digital guide program, which was designed to help seniors use digital devices, has received a positive response from the elderly population.
Since July, the city selected 100 digital guides over 50 years of age, deploying teams of two in 50 locations including subway stations, markets, malls, parks, and other locations with high floating populations.
As of last month, digital guides had provided a total of 43,521 consultations, 96.6 percent of which dealt with clients over 50 years of age.
Inquiries about smartphones comprised a majority of the consultations (4,888 cases), followed by traffic apps (2,593 cases) and kiosks (1,672 cases).
“It isn’t just about telling them how to use the device. It’s also about listening to their stories about life as a senior, which has been an amazing experience so far,” said Kim Kyeong-wol, one of the digital guides.
Based on the promising results, the city plans to increase the number of digital guides to 150 by next year, and deploy them to 75 locations.
