SEOUL, March 3 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul’s Seongdong District plans to develop anti-smoking policies based on big data analysis of complaints related to secondhand smoke and punitive fines to generate a smart, smoking-free environment.
The district collected data on complaints related to passive smoking, fines, outdoor non-smoking zones, traffic and educational facilities, and the floating population over the past three years.
The district was able to track down concentrated smoking areas that differ every hour by analyzing the data using Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
The district plans to use the analysis for effective and efficient deployment of six non-smoking enforcement agents to minimize complaints about passive smoking.
