Seoul Expands Access to News for Disabled Citizens with Digital Newspaper Service

SEOUL, May 18 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on May 16 that it will provide an electronic newspaper service to 3,000 disabled individuals and their families, transitioning from the paper-based news previously distributed to over 1,000 facilities and organizations serving the disabled community.

The Korea Disabled News, a specialized publication covering disability welfare policies, social and welfare news, and employment opportunities for the disabled, has been offered free of charge since 2018 upon request from facilities and organizations.

The newly introduced digital version of the newspaper will be delivered via KakaoTalk or email on weekday mornings. It will feature daily news readings lasting approximately five to seven minutes, and readers can access more detailed information by clicking on the text displayed at the bottom of the screen.

To subscribe to the digital newspaper service for disabled citizens, individuals can visit the Korea Disabled News website (https://www.koreadisablednews.com), call 070-4148-3000 or 02-2133-7966, or scan the provided QR code.

The service is available to registered disabled residents of Seoul, their caregivers, local welfare centers, protection facilities, workplaces, associations, and organizations. Subscriptions will be limited to the first 3,000 applicants.

“The goal is to reduce the information gap by diversifying the delivery of newspapers containing disability policies, news, and a wide range of social updates, moving beyond just print to include digital formats,” said Jung Sang-hoon, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Welfare Policy Bureau.

“By offering read-aloud news and sign language videos, we aim to enhance information accessibility for disabled individuals and alleviate their daily inconveniences.”
