SEOUL, Dec. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced a strategic partnership with India’s prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to strengthen cooperation in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
The agreement, signed on December 6 during a Seoul delegation’s visit to India, aims to advance innovation and collaboration between two global leaders in AI talent.
IIT Delhi, often dubbed the “MIT of India,” is a renowned hub for technological and scientific research. Established in 1951, the institution boasts 23 campuses across India and has produced prominent figures like Google CEO Sundar Pichai and IBM CEO Arvind Krishna.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) formalizes a partnership between IIT Delhi’s Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence and Seoul AI Hub, South Korea’s first AI startup incubator established in 2017. Seoul AI Hub has supported over 360 startups, achieving combined revenues of 404.2bn won and securing investments of 383.2bn won.
The collaboration will focus on joint research projects, global internship programs, and knowledge exchange initiatives. Key priorities include fostering AI-driven startups, enhancing academic and industrial partnerships, and hosting seminars to strengthen ties between the two nations.
“I am delighted to take this first step in AI collaboration with Seoul AI Hub and look forward to meaningful outcomes through active cooperation,” said IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee.
Jung Young-jun, Seoul’s Director of Economic and Job Planning, highlighted the partnership’s potential to facilitate joint research, investor networking, and startup growth programs in both cities.
This partnership underscores Seoul’s ambition to solidify its position as a global AI leader while leveraging India’s vast pool of AI expertise—the second largest globally after the United States.
