SEOUL, June 17 (Korea Bizwire) – A special “vending machine” designed to collect donations for animal welfare or other causes has been installed in Seoul.
On June 16, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it set up the reverse vending machine that accepts cans, PET, paper and glass bottles for recycling on a street in the popular Hongdae neighborhood.
When people put recyclables such as drink cans or plastic bottles into the machine, it calculates the amount of money to be donated. It displays the accumulated amount of the recycled waste by items, the amount of reduced CO2, and the total amount of money collected for donations.
Following the initial pilot project to examine the recycling machine’s effectiveness, service will expand to other places in the city after evaluating people’s concern, satisfaction rate and patterns of use.
