SEOUL, Dec. 12 (Korea Bizwire)Seoul’s subway operator is implementing safety measures to prevent subway crimes in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, officials said Sunday.

Seoul Metro, the operator of the capital’s vast subway system, installed safety mirrors in 99 locations including escalators and stairs that are vulnerable to illegal photography and videotaping at 41 subway stations late last month.

The safety mirrors are round reflectors installed by escalators or stairs to enable people to check the behaviors of others behind them. They can help prevent sexual crimes such as illegal photography.

For some subway restrooms, mirrors were installed at the entrance to so that those entering can easily view the environment around them.

Furthermore, Safe Zones were installed in 89 locations at 45 subway stations where entertainment facilities are clustered.

Safe Zones are brighter than neighboring areas and intensively surveiled by CCTV, thus preventing criminal behaviors such as sexual harassment late at night.
