SEOUL, Jun. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – In an effort to safeguard sole proprietors of businesses like hair salons, nail shops, and cafes from potential crimes, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Friday that it will provide free emergency beacons to 5,000 eligible establishments.

These “safety beacons” are designed to automatically alert authorities during emergencies. When the button is pressed, an external flashing light intensifies, a siren sounds, and the police are automatically notified.

The district control center then verifies the location and nearby CCTV footage before dispatching patrol cars to the scene. Additionally, pre-registered guardians (up to five) receive emergency text alerts through Seoul’s Safety App.

The siren volume can be adjusted or muted altogether.

Any sole proprietor operating a business within Seoul qualifies for the free beacon, including those with two or more employees working solo for extended shifts.

Applications will be accepted from June 3 to June 7.

“To ensure the safety of self-employed individuals operating alone, we have established a system that automatically notifies the police during emergencies,” stated Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. “We hope this initiative will contribute to a safer business environment.”
