SEOUL, Korea, Mar 11 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul Metropolitan City Government said on March 10 that it would open a flea market for foreign residents in Seoul at Gwanghwamun Plaza in downtown Seoul on March 23 so that they can buy and sell goods like clothes, books, and other sundry goods.

The market will be open for five hours between 11 am and 4 pm and held every third Sunday of the month until October this year except the summer months of July and August.

The city government-sponsored flea market for foreigners has been open every year since 2008 in which foreigners can interact with locals while exchanging goods. It is a popular attraction for both foreigners and Korean nationals alike. In addition to stalls selling dry goods, there are vendors selling ethnic foods of all kinds. Sellers in the market can donate all or part of the proceeds to the city government for charities.

On the outdoor stage right in front of the King Sejong statue, concerts are held every month featuring troupes from different countries. Beginning in April, foreigner communities in Seoul will put on their own shows, making the flea market more fun-filled venue for everyone in the city.

The Seoul city government will assign about ten volunteer interpreters for those needing translation between the seller and customer. For details, visit the website of Seoul Global Center.

Only foreign residents in Seoul are eligible to become a vendor at the flea market and need for apply for a stall four days before the market day by filling out a downloaded application and sending it to the center.
