SEOUL, Feb. 29 (Korea Bizwire) – This June, the skies over Yeouido in Seoul will be graced by a unique tethered helium balloon attraction, aptly named “Seoul’s Moon.” Shaped like a full moon, the balloon will offer passengers breathtaking night-time views from up to 150 meters above ground.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government unveiled the design and operational plans for Seoul’s Moon, promising an unforgettable experience for visitors. The balloon will feature a radiant yellow hue reminiscent of a full moon, adorned with Seoul’s city brand logo “Seoul My Soul,” along with pictograms of hearts, exclamation marks, and smiles to decorate its surface.
Each flight will last approximately 15 minutes, accommodating up to 30 passengers per session. Depending on weather conditions, the balloon can ascend between 100 and 150 meters. Despite its resemblance to a hot air balloon, Seoul’s Moon is filled with helium gas and tethered to the ground, allowing for vertical ascents only.
Helium, being an inert and non-flammable gas, poses no threat to human health, making the balloon a safer and more environmentally friendly option compared to traditional hot air balloons.
Seoul’s Moon will be operated using the Aero30ng model from the French company Aerophile, known for its quality and safety, certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The balloon is equipped with a 45-ton tensile strength cable, an emergency stop motor, and emergency power among other safety features.
Construction of Seoul’s Moon commenced last month, with plans to complete installation in Yeouido Park by June. Following over a week of trial flights to ensure safety, the official flights are scheduled to commence by the end of June, taking into account the monsoon and typhoon seasons.
The attraction will operate from Wednesday to Sunday, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., with regular maintenance conducted every Monday. Tickets are priced at 25,000 won for adults, with discounts available for individuals with disabilities and national merit holders.
