SEOUL, Nov.9 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul Metropolitan Government has stepped up to help prevent accidents in the workplace among foreign workers who are unfamiliar with the Korean language.
City officials announced that they will be providing safety education for 210 foreign workers from five different countries – Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
Safety instructors and professional translators will visit 17 major construction sites that have been designated by local governments. The sites will include subway line number nine, the light rail project connecting Ui to Sinseol, and the Gangnam city highway.
Basic safety rules and information on how to work safely will be explained to the foreign workers through images and real examples to help them understand more easily.
The city has been providing safety education to foreign workers since last year, and 290 workers from five different countries were educated during the first half of the year.
Seoul is making safety signs in foreign languages as well as Korean for the safety of foreign workers. Officials have distributed pocket safety manuals written in Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai, and Burmese. A Bengali version for workers from Bangladesh was added last month.
