SEOUL, April 23 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul is set to produce bottled Arisu using certified recycled materials from PET bottles, making it the first in Korea to do so. This move will contribute to the revitalization of the domestic market for recycled plastic for food, and the city expects it will encourage ‘bottle-to-bottle’ recycling.
Arisu has only been supplying bottled water for emergency water supply since 2019, and this year, they plan to produce 500,000 bottles, recycling about 5.1 tons of waste plastic using 30% recycled PET. The Water Supply Business Division will start producing Arisu from recycled PET bottles in July after holding a tender for the purchase of the bottles next month.
