SEOUL, May 24 (Korea Bizwire)The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Tuesday its plan to launch a new energy production project utilizing gas produced during the sewage treatment process.

The project involves installing a fuel cell facility at a sewage treatment plant to generate electricity and heat by utilizing the gas.

In order to accomplish this goal, the city government recently entered into a business agreement with Korea East-West Power Corp., SK Energy Co., and city gas supplier Yesco Co.

According to the terms of the agreement, the city government will supply the gas generated during the sewage treatment process at the Jungnang Water Reclamation Center to Yesco.

Yesco will then refine and blend the gas with city gas to provide fuel for fuel cells.

Additionally, SK Energy will be responsible for collecting and storing the carbon emissions generated during the operation of the fuel cells.

Upon the establishment of the 20-megawatt electricity per hour fuel cell facility, the city government anticipates generating sufficient electricity to power approximately 420,000 households, as well as producing heat for approximately 9,000 households.
