Seoul’s Gangnam District Holds Festival to Celebrate Dano Holiday

SEOUL, June 22 (Korea Bizwire)Seoul’s Gangnam District on Wednesday held a festival in front of a local children’s library on Wednesday to celebrate “Dano,” which is the fifth day of the fifth month according to the lunar calendar.

Dano is a day dedicated to praying for favorable weather for farming and fishing, as well as a bountiful harvest. One of the main Dano rituals is washing hair in water boiled with iris leaves, believed to enhance its shine.

The library opened its traditional hanok building, accompanied by an expansive garden, to host a variety of festivities.

These activities were designed for local residents and children to enjoy the traditional holiday.

Participants engaged in the making of traditional “surichwitteok” rice cakes and the washing of their hair in iris water.

These practices are part of Dano’s tradition to promote good health during the summer.
