SEOUL, Jan. 4 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on Monday that the so-called ‘shared kitchen’ system designed to allow multiple companies to share the same food production facilities will be implemented in full swing from this year.

The shared kitchen trial project has been carried out since June 2019 as a way to reduce the burden of facility investment for food retailers as well as to lower barriers for new businesses.

During the trial period, a total of 26 businesses operated shared kitchens that were used by 270 food retailers.

Two types of business models have been operated, including a separate time model in which one food retailer uses the kitchen during the daytime and the other during the night, and a simultaneous usage model that allows multiple food retailers to use the same space simultaneously.

Businesses renting out shared kitchens are required to furnish facilities on the basis of the facility standards by business type.

In addition, they also need to ensure sanitary management by hiring qualified sanitation managers and must subscribe to liability insurance to cover any possible consumer damage.
