SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — A range of new plant-based bread products from Shinsegae Food Inc., a food business arm of retail giant Shinsegae Group, are receiving a positive market response.
According to the company, the Better Meat Pizza Bread, which was launched at bakery sections within E-Mart Inc. outlets last month, is averaging sales of 1,600 units per day.
Its cumulative sales surpassed the 50,000 unit mark within just one month of its release.
E-Mart is a discount store chain under Shinsegae Group.
The new product utilizes sausage from Better Meat that was developed in-house. All of its ingredients are plant-based.
Better Meat, launched in 2021, has received a positive response for addressing the “bean smell,” intrinsic in soybean protein, a common ingredient in existing meat alternatives.
For three months starting from November 2021, 80,000 units of Better Meat toast were sold at E-Mart stores across the country.
The actual sales of its croissant products made with meat alternatives and egg salad, which were released in June, also exceeded forecasts by 150 percent.
