SINAN, Jun. 21 (Korea Bizwire)Sinan County in South Jeolla Province is pushing for the preservation and restoration of stone walls that have cultural sentiment found on islands within the county.

Following the enactment of a related ordinance in March, the local government will start a full-scale stone wall maintenance project at a cost of 300 million won (US$258,700).

Stone walls that have been well preserved in many parts of the island village of Sinan are a cultural heritage that have been around for a long time, along with the formation of villages, and retain traditional beauty and sentiment.

However, due to a declining and aging population, the island village landscape continues to be damaged and neglected.

In response, the local government will push for a project to support the restoration of original concrete or brick walls to stone walls or to install new stone walls around houses and villages.
