SEJONG, March 2 (Korea Bizwire) — The average income of singers and actors declined but that of athletes increased in 2020 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, data showed Tuesday.
The combined income of the nation’s 8,068 singers who reported business income in 2020 totaled 261.7 billion won (US$217 million), with an average per-capita income of 32.4 million won (US$26,900), according to the data compiled by Statistics Korea.
This figure is lower than the 60.6 million won in 2018 and 40.3 million won reported in 2019, indicating that income decreased due to the decline in the number of events resulting from the pandemic.
The nation’s 17,977 actors reported combined income of 583.4 billion won in 2020, with their per-capita income averaging 32.5 million won, down from 2019 figure but up from 2018.
The nation’s 43,339 professional athletes, referees, and leisure sport instructors reported combined income of just over 1 trillion won in 2020, with their per-capita income coming in at 23.2 million won.
Their aggregate income was higher than that of singers and actors, but their average income was lower due to a larger headcount.
For professional athletes, their 2020 average income was higher than the figures marked in 2019 and in 2018.
