SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Broadband will begin its service of up-scaling full HD video contents into ultra HD images with its proprietary solution offering UHD experience with existing full HD videos for the first time in the industry.
Korea’s second-largest broadband Internet service provider in terms of the number of subscribers plans to offer Hollywood film “Divergent” in UHD definition through its UHD set-top-free service by applying its up-scaling solution from August 14.
SK Broadband’s up-scaling solution can transform full HD contents into UHD images by adjusting colors and definition. To avoid noise and image distortion from artificially enlarging the definition, it has applied for cutting-edge technology in the solution.
SK Broadband expects that its up-scaling solution will facilitate the UHD ecology which definitely lacks UHD video contents. It will provide up-scaling of one or two famous movies or animations a month.
An official at SK Broadband said, “It is real that UHD TV owners have few UHD contents to watch. To overcome the problem, we have introduced the up-scaling technology.”
Meanwhile, to boost the usage of UHD TV, SK Broadband last April rolled out the UHD set-top-free service which enables users to watch UHD video contents with their TVs by installing BTV application without set-top boxes.
