SEOUL, March 17 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Chemicals Co. announced on Tuesday that it will market a new packaging material that was developed using chemical recycling technology, by the end of this year.
For the chemical industry, the waste plastic recycling is classified into two types – mechanical recycling and chemical recycling.
Unlike mechanical recycling, which makes use of waste PET bottles by grinding them down, chemical recycling is a technology that decomposes waste plastics to turn them into the state of a pure raw ingredient, thereby enabling recycling in a repeated manner without quality deterioration.
SK Chemicals’ ECOTRIA CR (Chemical Recycling) features 50 percent recycled content derived from materials being decomposed by chemical recycling technology, while realizing co-polyester’s inherent features such as transparency and chemical resistance.
The company said that ECOTRIA CR can be used widely for cosmetics containers, blister packaging and deco sheets that require high functionality and transparency.
The company plans to market ECOTRIA CR by the third quarter of this year after quickly completing commercialization preparation, including the construction of production facilities.
