SEOUL, May 3 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean chemical company SK Chemicals Co. has launched mass production of PO3G, a new eco-friendly polyol material made of corn.
The company said Monday that it launched the operation of a PO3G dedicated production facility within the site of its Ulsan plant. PO3G is a new material with excellent elastic recovery.
At present, the production capacity is estimated in the thousands of tons and will be expanded depending on market demand.
SK Chemicals’ PO3G is based on material made by fermenting corn. Compared to exiting polyol, it can reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases by about 40 percent during the production process.
The brand name of the new material is ECOTRION.
Previously, Hyundai Motor Co. made use of eco-friendly artificial leather seats (produced by construction material maker LX Hausys Ltd.) using SK Chemicals’ ECOTRION for its Genesis GV60 SUV models.
