SEOUL, June 29 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Chemicals Co., the chemical and pharmaceutical arm of SK Group, announced on Monday it will produce chemical-recycled polyester yarn for the first time in South Korea together with Huvis Corp., a local chemicals and fiber materials company.
By leveraging their respective strengths in polyester and yarn manufacturing technologies, the two parties plan to release chemical-recycled high-end polyester yarn under the brand name ECOEVER CR by the third quarter of this year.
Under the terms of the partnership, SK Chemicals will produce and supply chemically recycled PET (CR PET), while Huvis will manufacture polyester yarn products from the recycled materials.
Chemical recycling refers to the production of high molecular plastics by breaking down waste plastics and clothes and turning them into a pure raw material state.
The materials created through this process contain fewer fine foreign substances compared to physically recycled materials.
The recycling technology enables thread manufacturers to produce more durable and uniformly dyed products.
In May, SK Chemicals secured exclusive rights for chemically recycled material and PET-related products through an equity investment in a Chinese company with waste plastic (PET) recycling technology.
