SEOUL, Jun. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Inc., the holding company of South Korea’s chip-to-battery conglomerate SK Group, said Wednesday it has partnered with China’s Geely Holding Group for cooperation in batteries and future mobility solutions.
Under the strategic agreement signed Tuesday, the two companies will explore business opportunities in the eco-friendly mobility sector, including EV batteries, EV charging infrastructure and automotive electronics components, SK said in a statement.
They also plan to seek collaborations in various fields, including green energy, it said, without elaborating.
SK Inc. President Jang Yong-ho said the partnership will help the two groups lead global EV and eco-friendly energy markets, and build a strong foothold in the future mobility sector.
“Geely’s cooperation with SK is part of our commitment to working with global partners in transforming and improving industries in a sustainable direction. Through this partnership, we (will be able to) provide global consumers with a better greener mobility experience,” Geely Holding CEO Daniel Li said in the statement.
Geely Holding owns and manages a number of automotive brands, including Geely Automobile Holdings, Volvo Cars and the premium EV brand Polestar.
In 2023, Geely Holding’s auto brands sold 2.79 million units, with sales of EVs and “new energy” cars exceeding 980,000 units.
