SEOUL, June 10 (Korea Bizwire)SK ecoplant Co., a leading South Korean builder formerly known as SK Engineering & Construction Co., has stepped into the heat supply-type solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power generation market.

The company announced on Wednesday that it has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Korea East-West Power Co. to build a 4.2-megawatt fuel cell power plant.

The project is to establish a heat supply-type SOFC power plant in the neighborhood of the sports center in Donghae, Gangwon Province. The plant is scheduled to be completed by June 2022.

When the plant is completed, it is expected to supply about 35,000 megawatt-hour of electricity and about 4,000 gigacalories of heat at the same time.

The primary features of the plant include the mounting of a heat retrieval module developed by SK ecoplant on U.S.-based Bloom Energy Corp.’s SOFCs.

“The heat supply-type SOFC has great significance since the limitations of existing SOFCs, which were only able to produce electricity, have been overcome through technological development,” the company said.
