SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Korea Bizwire)SK Energy Co., South Korea’s leading gas station operator, has teamed up with fuel cell maker Doosan Fuel Cell Co. to establish on-site hybrid energy stations that use fuel cells to generate hydrogen, electricity and heat simultaneously.

The two parties jointly announced on Tuesday that they had formed a business agreement for hydrogen production through a linkage of hydrogen fuel cells and a high-purity hydrogen production system.

Under the terms of the agreement, SK Energy will be responsible for the supply and operation of the high-purity hydrogen production facilities, while Doosan Fuel Cell will be in charge of the supply and operation of Tri-gen fuel cells, which can generate hydrogen, electricity and heat simultaneously.

The two parties will complete the demonstration of hydrogen production and charging facilities for the production of high-purity hydrogen within the first half of next year, while installing commercial hybrid energy stations that can ensure simultaneous charging of electric and hydrogen vehicles.

A hydrogen charging station can generate about 1 ton of hydrogen per day, a volume enough to recharge 200 hydrogen passenger cars or 30 hydrogen trucks.

It’s possible to charge electric vehicles using the electricity generated from Tri-gen, which opens the possibility of establishing hybrid energy charging stations once related laws are amended.
