SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – Kwak Noh-jung, chief executive officer (CEO) of SK hynix Inc., said Monday his company will deepen its engagement in the artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem by forging closer ties with clients, adding it will strive to become a “creator” of AI chips instead of a simple provider.
Under the vision, Kwak said the company intends to become a “full-stack AI memory creator,” a goal reflecting its commitment to expanding its role in the ecosystem beyond that of a supplier by enhancing communication with clients and jointly addressing challenges they face.
“Previously, SK hynix focused on supplying high-quality products needed by clients in a timely manner,” Kwak said. “But our role as a provider is not enough.
“Memory chips have become more important and turned into key value products compared to the past when they were just components,” he added. “Accordingly, the performance expected of memory chips has also become higher, and this cannot be achieved through previous methods.”
The SK hynix CEO noted the company will continue to expand ties with key partners, including Nvidia Corp., TSMC and OpenAI.
“In the era of AI, companies that create synergies and produce better products through cooperation with clients and partners, instead of on their own, will ultimately succeed,” Kwak said.
During the event, he unveiled SK hynix’s road map for its high bandwidth memory (HBM) products.
In detail, SK hynix said it plans to begin supplying 16-layer HBM4 and HBM4E products with eight, 12 and 16 layers in 2026.
The company will introduce HBM5 and HBM5E between 2029 and 2031, it added.
