SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – SK hynix Inc. said Thursday it has acquired a global certification for information security in the automobile industry for the first time as a memory company.

The South Korean chip giant said all of its domestic sites in Icheon, Bundang and Cheongju have been awarded the Trusted Information Security Assessment Exchange (TISAX) certification.

TISAX is a globally accepted information security standard operated by the ENX Association, an organization comprising European vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and other related companies, aiming to standardize information security between companies in the automotive industry supply chain.

For global automakers, TISAX certification is a mandatory benchmark for security capabilities.

With this achievement, SK hynix plans to enhance its development of high-performance memory solutions for automotive applications, a sector experiencing growing demand due to the expansion of electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving and connected car technology.

Automotive semiconductors are applied to key safety systems of automobiles, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), braking mechanisms and engine control, requiring a higher level of reliability than general semiconductors.

“With this certification, we will strengthen cooperation with global automakers and major automotive parts companies,” SK hynix Vice President Kim Jong-hwan said. “We will also lead the next-generation automotive memory market by building trust with customers based on a thorough security system.”
