SK Hynix Wins “Low-carbon Certification” for Its Mobile DRAMs from Environment Ministry

The amount of carbon emissions of the certified products, the 20-nm 4-GB LPDDR2 and LPDDR3 mobile DRAMs, are 21 percent and 9 percent lower, respectively, than that of the current 30-nm 4-GB LPDDR2 DRAMs. (image: SK Hynix)

SEOUL, Korea, May 2, 2014 (Korea Bizwire) – SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest memory producer after Samsung, said on May 1 that its mobile DRAMs, including 20-nanometer 4-gigabit LPDDR2 and LPDDR3, won a low-carbon product certification from the Ministry of Environment.

The certification scheme, sponsored by the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute under the Environment Ministry, gives out certifications to those products that meet certain carbon emissions standards recommended by the ministry.

SK Hynix said it lowered the carbon emissions by reducing the steam usage through the optimization of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. The amount of carbon emissions of the certified products, the 20-nm 4-GB LPDDR2 and LPDDR3 mobile DRAMs, are 21 percent and 9 percent lower, respectively, than that of the current 30-nm 4-GB LPDDR2 DRAMs.

Kim Young-seo, SK Hynix senior manager in charge of environmental safety, said, “This certification is meaningful for us as our certified low-carbon product portfolios expanded to mobile DRAMs in addition to the current DRAM and NAND flash memory products for computers and servers.”

The company will step up its eco-friendly management practice by expanding the low-carbon products while promoting it overseas through sustainability reports and other means.
