SK Innovation Creates Subsidiary to Hire Disabled Persons

SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Korea Bizwire)SK Innovation Co. signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled on Tuesday to implement a system of subsidiary businesses for disabled persons.

This system recognizes employees with disability, hired by a subsidiary company established for the purpose of hiring disabled persons, as employed by the parent company.

With the signing of the MOU, SK Innovation will establish a subsidiary by the end of this year and begin hiring employees starting next February.

New employees will first be sent to work in Daejeon next May, as well as Seoul (July) and Ulsan (December).

“The agreement to establish subsidiaries for disabled persons will contribute to the creation of meaningful jobs that can help them achieve economic independence,” said Kim Jun, CEO of SK Innovation.

“We will do our best for the successful establishment of the firm as well as its operations.”

Since July, SK Innovation has been offering ‘Career Jump-up Classes’ to help persons with a developmental disability obtain employment.

Operation costs are borne by staff at SK Innovation, each of whom contributes 1 percent of their basic salary for funding.

SK Innovation also held the ‘Great Music Festival’, a nation-wide music festival for persons with developmental disabilities, to raise awareness and foster self-esteem for disabled persons.
