SEOUL, Sep. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – On December 25, 2044, Jeong Hyun-young, who have been married for 30 years, received a message on the phone, “You’ve got mail from your husband.” Wondering what it is, Ms. Jeong checks the mail and becomes speechless with a video message from her husband a day before their marriage.

She is moved to tears from his heartfelt message about his resolutions as a husband and confessions about unfailing love. Then, she beams at it, as thrills and excitements at the outset of her married life and her 30-year-long marriage life are going through her mind like a flash.

It is a snapshot that illustrates the “mobile mail” service to deliver the present emotions to the future.

Chief executive Ha Sung-min of SK Telecom said on September 16 that for the first time in the world, SK Telecom has started the “Letter of 100 Years” service so as to enable its subscribers to make a video clip, record their voice, or attach a 10-minute video file already stored in their mobile phone to send their message to the future of 30 years from now. Along with these files attached, users can type in text messages up to 2,000 characters.

Launched to commemorate the 30th anniversary of SK Telecom, the largest mobile carrier in South Korea, the service is available by the end of the year 2014. Subscribers will be able to send their heartfelt messages – for example, the indescribable joy of parents for their new-born baby can be delivered to the baby who will be an adult after 30 years – since “Letters of 100 Years” transcends time. The mobile carrier also anticipates that subscribers will be given a chance to ponder upon the real meaning of communication by adding ICT in the modern era to “emotion” and “time.”

Regarding the mail delivery, a mail receiver will get a phone message or an email that notifies the mail arrival on the designated day in the future. Then, the receiver can check the mail by clicking the URL on the notice and access the mail by answering a question that is created by the sender.

Given the fact that a maximum time limit to receive mail is 30 years, a sender can change the phone number of a receiver in the application. On top of that, the sender is given a notice that mail has been sent and is stored for the receiver annually until the time that the receiver finally gets it.

The application “Letter of 100 Years” is downloadable for any newer devices than Samsung Galaxy S2 and iPhone 4 from T store, Google Play Store, and App Store.

“We have released the application “Letter of 100 Years” to enable our subscribers to send their cherished heart that will never fade away even after 100 years,” said Bang Sung-jae, head of SK Telecom’s customer-oriented management team and added, “In return for the unfailing trust that our subscribers have shown for 30 years, we are stepping up efforts to release new products they can be proud of.”

Likewise, the largest mobile carrier is making constant efforts to offer happiness to its customers and society with services to exercise its societal responsibility, while protecting underprivileged people, getting rid of information divide, and serving customers with various special promotions.
