SK Telecom to Use AI to Manage Its Network

SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Korea Bizwire)SK Telecom Co., South Korea’s top mobile carrier, said Thursday that it has expanded its artificial intelligence (AI)-based system, TANGO, to manage its wireless network.

TANGO, based on big data and machine learning technologies, is designed to solve various network related problems by itself. The company first applied TANGO to its wired network in December 2016.

“An AI-based network is essential in the 5G era that is based on big data analysis,” said Park Jin-hyo, a SK Telecom official. “The company will try to master TANGO’s technology to provide the best quality through the network.”

SK Telecom has received recognition for its contribution to the development of AI technologies in recent years. The company has received two awards from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Intelligent Information System Society.
