SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Korea Bizwire) –SK Telecom announced on April 7 that it is adopting an Artificial Intelligence (AI) decision-making governance system to ensure the reliability and safety of its AI technology.
To achieve this, the company is setting up specific AI governance standards, establishing dedicated organizational structures and roles, and developing relevant processes.
In an effort to establish these governance standards, SK Telecom plans to redefine its AI values by March and create operational guidelines. This initiative aims to enhance the ‘Human-Centered AI’ approach established in 2021.
To build a specialized organization for AI governance, the company is operating a task force. Jeong Jae-heon, the head of external cooperation, will lead the TF, focusing on specifying the roles and structures of the AI governance division.
The governance system will be integrated into the management system, promoting a virtuous cycle of monitoring, diagnosis, and improvements. As part of this effort, SK Telecom plans to form an external advisory group to incorporate diverse perspectives.
This move is part of SK Telecom’s broader strategy to implement its ‘AI Pyramid Strategy,’ which focuses on three core areas: AI infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AIX), and AI services.
The governance framework is expected to facilitate the effective execution of this strategy.
“Establishing AI governance is a stepping stone for SKT to leap into a global AI company. By securing AI based on trust and safety, we aim to ensure our AI Pyramid Strategy has strong execution power, driving innovation in industry and daily life,” noted Jeong, reflecting SK Telecom’s commitment to advancing AI technology responsibly and ethically.
