SEOUL, Dec. 9 (Korea Bizwire)North Gyeongsang Province installed a smart traffic safety system for crosswalks in Gumi to prevent traffic accidents.

The system, installed in the children’s safety zone at Gumi’s Okgye Elementary School, is comprised of a smart ground lighting system and traffic safety signs for crosswalks.

The system detects pedestrian movement in vulnerable weather conditions, such as snow, rain, and at night, to automatically light up the ground and the signs.

Traffic signs put up on each side of the crosswalk offer real-time information on pedestrians and nearby traffic signals.

The smart traffic safety system for crosswalks was made possible through financial support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency.

Authorities invested some 390 million won (US$330,000) on a business consortium composed of four agencies and companies, including Wisedream Co., ToiCos Co., and Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Research Institute to carry out the project.
