MUAN, July 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Commercial smart farm technology designed for small greenhouses has been garnering rave reviews from farmers for its effectiveness in reducing labor and increasing productivity.
Since last year, Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Service has been carrying out a commercial smart farm project to be tested on 65 farms stretching across 21 hectares within the South Jeolla Province.
The commercial smart farm system designed for a single-span plastic greenhouse costs 35 percent less than other smart farm facilities.
The smart farm system enables farmers to check or manage their crops through smartphones or computers anywhere at any time, allowing them to easily control the greenhouse environment to maintain the most optimum condition for growing crops.
In fact, smart farm systems saved 21 percent of labor power, while raising fruit quality by 4 percent, productivity by 6 percent, and average income by 13 percent.
Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Service plans to expand the project to cover 100 farms by 2022.
