BUSAN, May 17 (Korea Bizwire) —SNT Motiv announced on Wednesday that it has entered into a contract with the Korea Defense Acquisition Program Administration to supply the ‘Special Operations Submachine Gun Type II Project.’

The project aims to provide modern rifles for special forces engaged in activities such as counter-terrorism and open warfare. These rifles will replace the outdated K1A submachine guns that have been utilized by special warfare units for over four decades.

SNT Automotive’s ‘STC-16′ 5.56mm Special Operations Submachine Gun (referred to as STC-16) was selected through a competitive bidding process and subsequently underwent rigorous testing and certification to meet the military’s performance requirements.

Upon the signing of the supply contract, SNT Motiv will commence delivery of the rifles to special forces starting from the end of this year. Additionally, they will supply silencers, which will be purchased and equipped separately from the rifles, a first in Korea.

The STC-16 was developed with proprietary technology, incorporating the concept of ‘modularization,’ which is a global trend in rifle development. This approach allows for the replacement of the barrel, barrel cover, and buttstock as required.

The STC-16 not only fulfills the military’s operational requirements for various environments but also considers factors such as weight and barrel length, specifically catering to special operations like hand-to-hand combat and airborne operations.

It offers the flexibility to mount various ancillary equipment, including laser target indicators, to enhance operational effectiveness. Moreover, the design ensures convenient usage for both left and right-handed individuals.

An official from SNT Motiv stated, “In the realm of small-caliber firearms, we continue to conduct research and development, focusing on lightweight and highly accurate weapons essential for modern warfare in line with the K-defense era. We are at the forefront of bolstering future defense capabilities.”
