SEOUL, Mar. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Son Heung-min, the celebrated forward for Tottenham Hotspur, has once again stated his intention to remain unmarried until his retirement from professional football, prioritizing his career above all else.
This declaration was highlighted by Sportskeeda, a U.K.-based sports outlet, which emphasized Son’s dedication to the game as his foremost priority.
During a recent event organized by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to celebrate International Women’s Day, Son engaged with female students at Vale School in a disability football session, expressing agreement with his father’s advice to postpone marriage until after retirement.
“If I were to get married, family would be my priority. My wife and children would come first, followed by football. I hope that football can be my number one as long as I’m playing at my best,” Son articulated.
Acknowledging the uncertainties of maintaining peak performance levels, Son added, “No one knows how long they can play at the top level. I want to make everyone happy by playing at the highest level for as long as possible. It takes more than talent to become a true professional.”
Son cited Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi side Al-Nassr, as an example, emphasizing the tremendous effort required to excel in the sport.
While most people focus on Ronaldo’s talent, Son highlighted the Portuguese star’s relentless pursuit of excellence to maintain his status at the pinnacle of the game.
“Being a professional is not just about talent,” Son remarked. “Look at Ronaldo, he invests far more than just talent. Some players may think they can rely solely on talent, but that is never the case without such perseverance.”
This is not the first time Son’s stance on marriage has come to light. Previous reports from Sports Bible have noted Son’s adherence to a strict marital rule set by his father, stipulating that he should not marry until after concluding his football career.
In various interviews, Son has consistently concurred with his father’s perspective, reinforcing his dedication to football above personal commitments until his retirement.
