SEJONG, Jul. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on July 24 that 12 new construction technologies, including a method for inspecting concrete cracks using autonomous drones, have been designated as innovative construction technologies for the first half of this year.

Since 1989, the government has been designating new construction technologies to promote advancements in the field through private sector innovation.

Among the newly designated technologies is an autonomous drone system applying digital twin technology.

This system is expected to contribute to facility safety management and accident prevention by analyzing damage to concrete structures, such as cracks, breakage, and exposed reinforcing bars.

Another notable technology is a non-contact image processing-based bridge displacement measurement using laser and camera. This method can measure bridge deflection during safety inspections, particularly useful when there are rivers, roads, or railways beneath the bridge.

The ministry also recognized a system that automatically identifies people entering and exiting buildings using smart sensors.

This system also prevents the entry of fine pollutants into indoor spaces using high-efficiency triple filters and ionizers, which attract fine particles and microorganisms in the air.

These designations are part of South Korea’s ongoing efforts to encourage technological innovation in the construction industry.

The government has been actively promoting the development and adoption of new technologies to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in construction practices.

Detailed information about these new construction technologies can be found on the website of the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (www.kaia.re.kr).
