SEOUL, May 24, 2025 (Korea Bizwire) — A groundbreaking fusion of nature and technology is taking center stage at the 2025 Seoul International Garden Expo, where the Korea Arboretum and Garden Institute (KAGI), an agency under the Korea Forest Service, has unveiled its new “Hybrid Digital Healing Garden.”
Presented at Boramae Park in Seoul’s Dongjak District, the installation offers a multisensory virtual garden experience that combines LED visuals, immersive soundscapes, and even scent to simulate forest environments.
Visitors are invited to explore three themes — a tranquil forest, a warm forest, and a breathing forest — designed to evoke the emotional and physiological benefits of real nature.
The digital garden was developed using technology from Dunamu, a leading Korean tech company, and employs a media façade format to deliver a sense of deep nature unconstrained by time or physical space. The exhibit aims to offer city dwellers a therapeutic escape from urban fatigue through a digitally rendered natural retreat.
“Urban life can be overwhelming, and we hope this digital healing garden provides a moment of calm and restoration,” said Shim Sang-taek, director of KAGI. “We plan to continue developing new models of digital therapeutic gardens to make garden culture more accessible, especially in underserved urban areas.”
The installation reflects a growing trend in South Korea to integrate information and communication technologies (ICT) with environmental and artistic experiences, particularly in urban infrastructure, public facilities, and industrial complexes. The initiative also underscores the nation’s expanding vision for inclusive and innovative green spaces.
