SEOUL, Sep. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — In a country where high-rise apartment living is the norm, South Korean developers are pushing the boundaries of residential amenities, transforming communal spaces into hubs of wellness, culture, and community engagement.

Hyundai Engineering, one of South Korea’s leading construction firms, announced on September 1 that it will debut a suite of new specialized residential products in its upcoming Hillstate Osan The Class complex, set to launch next month.

At the heart of these innovations is Up Fitness, a reimagined fitness center that goes beyond traditional gym equipment to incorporate dedicated meditation spaces.

This wellness-focused amenity is being developed in collaboration with Zentherapy Natural Healing Center, the company behind the meditation programs at the renowned Museum SAN.

“We’re seeing a growing interest in holistic well-being among our residents,” said Park Ji-soo, a spokesperson for Hyundai Engineering.

“Up Fitness responds to this trend by offering both physical and mental wellness spaces under one roof.”

The meditation area will feature both open and focused spaces, along with a tea room. Residents will have access to guided meditation audio tracks covering five different themes.

For those preferring more active pursuits, the complex will also include a Healthy Park, an integrated space that combines exercise equipment with green areas and rest zones.

In a nod to the challenges of apartment living, the fitness center will include a dedicated area for home workouts where residents can follow video exercise routines without worrying about disturbing their neighbors — a common concern in South Korea’s densely populated urban areas.

Hyundai Engineering is also introducing a program called Neighborhood Bookstore x HEC, aimed at revitalizing the often underutilized small libraries that are mandatory in apartment complexes with over 500 units.

This initiative partners with local independent bookstores to curate the library’s collection and organize cultural lectures.

For the Hillstate Osan The Class complex, the company has partnered with Harp and Bowl, a picture book café in Osan. The café will manage a corner of the complex’s small library, offering monthly picture book curation services and workshops on creating picture books.

“By collaborating with local businesses, we’re not just improving our amenities, we’re also fostering a sense of community and supporting local culture,” Park explained.
