DONGHAE, Feb. 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Amid the ongoing subzero temperatures, the Army’s 23rd Guards Brigade is currently engaged in cold-weather tactical training exercises.

The training, which began on January 29 and will continue until February 2, focuses on enhancing mission execution capabilities in winter operational environments, validating operational plans, and honing operational capabilities through field maneuvers involving actual troops and equipment.

Exercises were categorized into operations against infiltration and local provocations, and full-scale warfare scenarios.

The training for operations against infiltration and local provocations primarily revolved around maritime exercises such as identifying and neutralizing unidentified objects at sea and coastal infiltration operations. The full-scale warfare training emphasized capturing key forward positions.

The unit plans to refine and develop operational plans based on the insights gained from the cold-weather training and aims to improve combat capabilities through future command post exercises and actual field maneuvers.

“The training is aimed at enhancing our operational capabilities by establishing a flawless coastal defense posture, verifying our rapid response and maneuver capabilities, and identifying additional requirements,” noted Captain Oh In-cheol, commander of the Cheongnyong Battalion.

The 23rd Guards Brigade is the sole brigade-level unit in the armed forces dedicated to coastal defense operations, tasked with safeguarding the eastern coastline including the Gangneung, Donghae, and Samcheok areas.
