SEOUL, Apr. 10 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean construction companies have received widespread recognition for their design excellence, winning multiple accolades at the prestigious Red Dot Design Awards, regarded as one of the world’s three major design competitions.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on April 9 that its landscaping works, the “Tea House” and the “Artist’s Garden,” at The H Firstier I’Park residential complex in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, were both honored at the Red Dot Design Awards 2024.
The Tea House, a self-designed creation by Hyundai E&C, evokes the whimsical charm of a fairy-tale cottage. Constructed predominantly from wood, the triangular cabin-like structure harmoniously blends with the surrounding water features and lush greenery.
The Artist’s Garden, another award-winning space, aims to bring residents of large-scale complexes closer to nature. Following the meandering pathways, one encounters an array of meticulously placed flowers and trees, culminating in a quaint pagoda at the end of the trail.
With these accolades, Hyundai E&C has achieved an impressive feat, becoming the first domestic construction company to have two projects from a single site selected for the Red Dot Design Awards. Furthermore, the company has now won prestigious global design awards for four consecutive years.
Earlier in February, Hyundai E&C’s “H Eye Planter” at the Hillstate Yongin Dunjeon Station complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and the landscape design at the Hillstate Jije Station Firstium complex in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, were named winners at the Asia Design Prize 2024.
A Hyundai E&C representative attributed the company’s focus on landscape design to the growing demand from homebuyers seeking comfortable living environments, stating, “As residents increasingly desire pleasant residential spaces, landscape facilities have become increasingly important.”
Daewoo Engineering & Construction also announced that the “Artistic Playground” at the Daechi Prugio Summit complex in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the “Arcloud” sculptural installation at the Arcloud Gamil commercial facility in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, and the “Forest and Light Landscape” at the Dalseong Park Prugio Hillstate complex in Jung-gu, Daegu, have all been awarded the Red Dot Design Award.
The Artistic Playground departs from traditional playgrounds dominated by composite play equipment, featuring whimsical play structures with organic, 3D-pen-like forms atop circular patterns.
The Arcloud, a cloud-shaped multifunctional space, seamlessly connects interior and exterior areas, extending underground and unifying the fragmented outdoor spaces.Divided into a play area and an event plaza, the play area boasts a towering main climbing structure, allowing children to explore and play freely.
The event plaza accommodates various activities and performances, with a floor fountain providing refreshing respite on hot days.
Inspired by urban nature, the “Forest and Light Landscape” comprises a Pine Forest Rock Garden, emphasizing the flow of rocks and water within a pine forest; a Glass House, where lighting creates breathtaking scenery for day and night enjoyment; and Cheongdamwon, featuring an impressive circular pagoda.
